April Fool's Day

Uncategorized Apr 01, 2023

Did you ever give a thought to where April Fool's Day came from?

Actually the first day of the calendar year was always April 1st, just after the Spring Equinox.  In 1582, Pope Gregory XIII started the Gregorian Calendar.  This calendar switched the first day of the calendar from April 1st to January1st.

This was quickly adopted by much of the Catholics, but not by the Protestants within Europe.

People who were resistant to embrace this new calendar change became the butt of jokes and hoaxes and were called "April Fool's".
